Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open 2009
17 May 09

Peter Harradine was an honored guest of the Deutsche Bank at the Ladies Swiss Open Golf Tournament held from 14 - 17th of May at Golf Gerre Losone.

Golf Gerre is one of Peter Harradine’s 5 PGA Tournament Courses. The par 71 course was increased to par 73 in order to provide a better “show” factor.

The tournament hosted women golf players from around the world. Marianne Skarpnord from Norway, starting her fifth season on the Ladies European Tour, collected a €78,750 winner's cheque when her 16-under-par total of 276 left her one stroke clear of England’s Melissa Reid, who also shot 70. Australian Karen Lunn (69) finished in third place on 278, 14-under-par, after she chipped in for eagle at the 18th hole.

For leading players Skarpnord and Reid, strategic Par 4 holes 16th and 17th were very challenging, but Skarpnord played birdie on 16th and Reid on 17th and the uncertainty in winning the tournament was continued. Significant hazards on 18th hole and tight fairway in front of the green made both women struggle for final score and Skarpnord managed to secure the first place with 3 putts on the green.

"Melissa and I both played well. We were either even, one shot up, or one shot down throughout the entire round. She just missed a few putts around 13, 14, or something and I made a birdie on 16. That brought me back. but it was hard work at the end, three putting there. The first putt I didn't think was so fast but luckily it didn't matter that I didn't have to sink the second. I just had to put it close."

The Ladies European Tour moved to Munich for the German Open which is played at “Gut Hausern”, another Harradine design.
